Why your system shows a warning the first time. Feather isn't signed by Apple or Microsoft yet: those signatures cost money. So your system warns you that it doesn't know the app.
On Mac
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile. - Drag Feather into the Applications folder.
- Open Feather from the Applications folder. macOS says it can't verify the app: click OK (or Done).
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security. At the bottom, next to “Feather was blocked”, click Open Anyway, then confirm with your password.
On macOS 14 or earlier it's quicker: right-click (or Control-click) Feather in Applications, choose Open, then Open again.
You only have to do this once.
On Windows
- Open the downloaded
-windows-installation.exefile. - If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
- Follow the installer. Feather installs in your user folder, adds itself to the Start menu and, if you leave the box checked, to the desktop.
Feather also appears in Settings › Apps › Default apps, if you want to make it your default browser.
Bring your bookmarks
On first launch, Feather offers to import bookmarks from your old browser: Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera, Firefox, Safari or Arc. You can also do it later in Settings. Passwords are imported from a CSV file exported by your old browser or password manager.
Updates
Feather checks for new versions on its own and offers them to you. After each update, it shows you once what changed.
Uninstall
- Mac: quit Feather and drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash. Your settings are in
~/Library/Application Support/app.Feather.Feather, if you want to delete them too. - Windows: Settings › Apps, then Feather › Uninstall. Windows asks whether to delete your data as well.
